I feel like I'm not learning fast enough — tutorial hell
poze 3 months ago398 gadeen
I've done dozens of tutorials and courses over the past year, but when I try to build something on my own I freeze and don't know where to start. How do I get out of this?

This is "tutorial hell", and it's extremely common. Tutorials make *someone else* make all the decisions. Building on your own means making decisions, and that's the skill you haven't practiced yet.
How to break out:
1. Stop starting new courses for a while. 2. Pick a tiny project you actually want, and make it smaller than you think: a tracker for your expenses, a page listing your church's events, a quiz for your siblings. 3. Write the first version badly. Break it into steps on paper first ("show a list", "add an item", "save it"), then do one step at a time. 4. When stuck, search for the specific step, not a tutorial for the whole project: "how to save array to localStorage", not "todo app tutorial". 5. Rebuild a tutorial project from memory, then add a feature the tutorial didn't have. 6. Ask for code reviews. Post your repo and ask what to improve.
Feeling lost and confused while building is not a sign you're failing. It *is* the learning.
